Brewing up a

Neighborhood District

It may well be Milwaukee’s best-kept secret – but WSC is working to change that. Over the past 12-plus years, there’s been a cacophony of cranes, clouds of dust, heavy trucks moving rubble out and bringing concrete into the eight blocks bounded by Winnebago Street on the north, Highland Avenue on the south, I-43 to the west and 7th Street to the east.

A lot of activity to be sure, but if you were to ask the average Milwaukeean to explain what’s going on there, most would be hard-pressed to answer.

That’s why WaterStreet Creative was tapped by one of the city’s most diverse and historic neighborhoods for public relations efforts to capture the attention of locals and visitors alike.

Following a 12-year renovation and more than $300 million in public and private investment, the eight-block manufacturing complex (once considered a brownfield site) has been redeveloped into a new, vibrant mixed-use neighborhood for businesses, students, seniors, educational institutions and cultural organizations.

WSC has helped raise the visibility of the Brewery District Neighborhood Improvement District #1 through a combination of media relations and event support, generating nearly $100,000 in earned media over the first year.

This includes: a cover story on The Shepherd Express, a visit by Milwaukee PBS’ Emmy-winning television show “Around the Corner with John McGivern,” an hour-long, on-site broadcast by WUWM’s “Lake Effect” and dozens of other media hits for events and businesses within the district. And that’s just a start.

This is just the first chapter in the Brewery District story and it’s only going to flourish from here.
